Overview:

Spider-Man’s been a much-requested character here on the blog.  He’s also been one of my favorite superheroes going all the way back to when I was running around in glow-in-the-dark Spider-Man pajamas.  For some reason the pajamas had a cape.  To this day I don’t understand why.

ANYWAY, Spider-Man is quite possibly one of the most iconic superheroes of all time.  His costume is instantly recognizable in all its forms, his origin story is so well known it’s become a trope to be satirized and imitated, and he’s won the hearts and minds of billions of people across multiple comic runs, film franchises, and video games.

With his highly agile combat style, relatively slim build (depending on the artist), you would maybe call him an Assassin type character.  However, with his strength, abilities, and willingness to charge head-on into combat, I’d say Spider-Man is of the Fighter archetype.  It was a toss up for me between the Monk and Brawler class,  but I think in the end he fits in with the Monk, due to the cerebral, dodging, surgical-strike nature of his combat style.

Let’s take a look at how we can become more like the famed web-crawler!

spidermanworkout

In The Spider-Man Workout, we’ve got three goals:  Stay slim, stay agile, and get hella strong.  While Spider-Man is definitely a lightweight when it comes to size, he’s definitely a heavyweight when it comes to strength.  Maybe not in comparison to some other members of his universe, but definitely in comparison to your average everyday human being!  We’ll be looking to build strong core muscles, and significant overall strength, with a mix of weights and bodyweight calisthenics.

spiderman skills

In the Does Whatever a Spider Can, we’re going to take a look at Spidey’s combat style first.  After that comes climbing…  Unfortunately, we’re not going to be sticking like glue to walls any time soon, but we can discuss climbing as a hobby, a skill, and a workout!  Web swinging, also, isn’t very feasible, but learning how to run cool obstacle courses like American Ninja Warrior definitely is, and I think is an appropriate Spider-Man-esque activity!  Finally, we can talk about how to develop your own “spider-sense” of sorts.  You may not be able to predict the near future, but we can increase your situation awareness and reactions through a variety of means!

spidermanresponsibility

Finally, we’ll close out with The Responsibility of Spider-Man.  Because, you know, we just have to.  Seriously though, responsibility is something that a lot of the characters we cover here get to kind of…ignore.  Most of them do all sorts of things that inflict crazy amounts of property damage, or perform other actions with ridiculous consequences they never have to face.  This time, we’re going to talk about how all your actions have consequences, and how this can be both good, and bad.

This is going to be great!  Spider-Man is a timeless character, and a role model for people all over the world!  I’m super excited for the next two weeks, and I hope you are, too!

Live boldly, change the world, and continue to be awesome!

If you’re looking for just a workout recommendation, you could just use this one. =D I’d end up doing the exact same thing for Miguel if I were to cover him.
