Game(s): The Street Fighter Series, various offshoots and crossovers, cameos.
- Expert Fighter
- Strong Character
- Sense of Moral Duty
Firstly, don’t forget about our new, ongoing quest, The Call of the Bluebird! We’re still 29 follows away from our new game character combat video!
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, on to today’s business. Ryu is a hallmark character of the fighting game genre, and one of its earliest icons. Dating back to the first Street Fighter game, he has appeared in every single game and offshoot of the series since then. He is one of the more notable and well known characters of gaming, and has appeared in both television and movies.
Ryu is a fighter, through and through. In The Ryu Workout, we’re going to take an explosive, plyometric approach to things. Unlike our last street fighter character, Chun Li, we’re going to focus a bit more on upper body work, to help create Ryu’s powerful punches. We’re also going to work on some heavy-duty fight conditioning, so you can go toe-to-toe with the best of them!
In The Skills of Ryu, we’re going to take a look at Ryu’s fighting style. We’ll examine how to use body mechanics to your advantage, how to stay light on your feet, and how to work with a heavy bag. We’re also going to talk a bit about the meditative aspect of Ryu, in his following of the way of Hadou.
The Spirit of Ryu will be our last post in the series, examining what drives a humble-yet-fierce fighter like him. We’re also going to talk about what it means to control one’s dark ambitions, and how to temper yourself in the face of temptation.
Ryu is one of my more favorite characters in gaming, and one of my favorites from the Street Fighter series(not my favorite, though coughAkumacough). I know I’m going to have a lot of fun with this series, and I hope you do, too. We continue tomorrow, with The Ryu Workout! Until then, make sure to like the Facebook page, follow me on Twitter, and go follow the Tumblr as well. As always, keep being awesome!
