Overview:
Alright, here we go! I know we covered Krillin a while back, and I know at the time I mentioned that doing god-tier characters was difficult and/or less interesting because, well, they’re basically gods, but WHAT THE HECK, let’s give it a shot! Way too many people have requested this over the years, and it’s been bouncing around in my head recently, so we’re going to give the mightiest Saiyan warrior his time in the spotlight. It’s time to take a look at Son Goku!
First off, let’s talk archetype/class. I was initially tempted to put Goku in the Fighter/Monk classification (like I did with Krillin,) however putting him in the same class as Krillin honestly seemed kind of…wrong. Yes, Goku is a fighter, however I think with his strength and ability to both take and dish out damage, the Tank archetype was more fitting. As with Wonder Women, Goku can take damage and dish it out pretty evenly, so the Warrior class definitely seemed the most fitting.
Powerful, pure, and competitive as all hell, I don’t think the penultimate star of the Dragonball series needs any more of an introduction, so let’s get into the character breakdown, shall we?
First off, of course, is the thing most people are here for, The Goku Workout. We’re going to go into this acknowledging that Goku’s raw physical strength, speed, and agility aren’t really completely attainable by mere mortal humans. Sorry folks, just the way it is. Instead, we’re going to focus on becoming as strong, fast, and agile as possible, with an eye on developing those “jacked martial artists” aesthetics that Goku rocks. We’re not aiming to get as bulky as “Super Saiyan Goku fighting Final Form Frieza on Namek.” Instead, I think “Goku training on the way to Namek” or “Super Saiyan God Goku fighting Beerus,” are much more attainable goals.
Next up will be The Skills of a Saiyan Warrior. Now, again, sorry to disappoint, I can’t teach you how to fire a kamehameha (or any sort of ki blast technique,) because it’s just not possible. 🙁 Same with flying. We can, however, talk about how to create our own Zenkai boost, Kaioken technique, overall martial arts mastery, and combat-oriented meditation tactics. Obviously we’ll also talk about the best martial arts to study to emulate Goku’s fighting style, as well (as always.)
Our final post on the legend himself will be The Purity of Goku. Goku’s heart and mind are what set him apart from every other character in the Dragonball series, distinguishing him even from his fellow saiyans and half-saiyans. In fact, it’s even initially stated that only the pure of heart can become super saiyans, although later on this seems to be somewhat discredited by basically everyone with saiyan blood able to gain the transformation. Regardless, Goku’s purity makes him something of a unique character in the Dragonball universe, and we’re going to explore it as the final part of our breakdown of his character.
I hope you’re excited! I sure am! I’ll see you again on Thursday, with The Goku Workout! (Reminder: Patrons on Patreon see the next post whenever a new one goes up, so if you’re a patron, you can go check out The Goku Workout right now!)
